Short description
This hognose snake combines Axanthic with Superconda. Axanthic removes red and yellow pigmentation, resulting in cool grey and black tones. Superconda eliminates nearly all dorsal pattern, creating a clean and minimal appearance. Genetically, this hognose snake is heterozygous for Albino. A Snow develops when an offspring inherits both Albino and Axanthic and both mutations are visually expressed; therefore both parents must at least carry Albino and Axanthic or express them visually.

A good start begins with proper housing. Juvenile western hognose snakes do well in a smaller enclosure with temperatures around 25–28 °C. For adults, an enclosure of at least 60 × 30 cm is recommended, with temperatures around 24–31 °C, divided into a warmer and cooler area.
Keep the environment mostly dry, with humidity levels around 40–50%. Provide one slightly humid area, for example by means of a water bowl.
A western hognose snake is typically fed once per week with a frozen-thawed mouse of appropriate size.
For more detailed information on housing, temperature, humidity and feeding, please refer to our comprehensive caresheet on the Care page.
