The Swiss Chocolate is a unique variation of the Western Hognose Snake (Heterodon nasicus). Thanks to its distinctive appearance and active character, this species has remained one of the most popular snakes in the hobby. Description
Swiss Chocolate is a recessive mutation that increases melanin production. This mutation displays a higher concentration of melanin on the head than on the rest of the body, resulting in a darker head colouration. Hatchlings are generally born dark and maintain this darker appearance throughout their development. Swiss Chocolate displays more colour tones within the yellow spectrum and has a background colour with a finer and more irregular colour distribution compared to Sable. In many males, the body colouration is lighter than in females. The pattern remains visible throughout the body and retains clear markings.
