The Lavender is a unique variation of the Western Hognose Snake (Heterodon nasicus). Thanks to its distinctive appearance and active character, this species has remained one of the most popular snakes in the hobby. Description
Lavender is a recessive colour mutation and a T+ form of albino. Hatchlings are generally born with an almost red appearance and a darker belly. After several sheds, the colour gradually changes towards pink and lavender tones. The eyes are typically dark ruby in colour. This mutation affects pigmentation without completely removing the pattern. In some animals, the colour may temporarily darken. This is associated with an increased movement of melanin towards the melanophores during stress responses. The morph displays pink to lavender pigmentation throughout the body and visible pattern markings.
