The Caramel is a unique variation of the Western Hognose Snake (Heterodon nasicus). Thanks to its distinctive appearance and active character, this species has remained one of the most popular snakes in the hobby. Description
Caramel is a recessive colour mutation and a T+ form of albino. This mutation shows no black markings and is known for its warm caramel-like tones. The eyes and tongue usually have a ruby-pink colour. Juveniles often show a translucent stripe along the belly. As the animal matures, the belly pattern strongly fades, resulting in a more ivory-cream coloured belly. The head and neck markings are reduced, which is a recognisable trait of this mutation. This mutation is also used for its recognisable head pattern and the reduced pattern around the neck.
