The Axanthic Anaconda is a unique variation of the Western Hognose Snake (Heterodon nasicus). Thanks to its distinctive appearance and active character, this species has remained one of the most popular snakes in the hobby. Description
Axanthic Anaconda is a combination of the recessive Axanthic mutation and the heterozygous incomplete dominant Anaconda mutation. In the Axanthic mutation, red and yellow pigmentation is absent, causing this combination to develop mainly grey, white and black tones. The Anaconda mutation reduces the amount of dorsal and lateral pattern, allowing larger areas of the background colour to remain visible. This generally creates a more open pattern compared to a regular Axanthic. The dorsal blotches are often connected or partially reduced. The markings can range from light grey to deep black depending on the specimen. Contrast, colour intensity and pattern distribution may vary between individual animals.
