Genetics:
AxanthicSupercondaToffeebelly
Born: 2025
Diet: Frozen-thawed mouse
Available:

Short description

This hognose snake combines Axanthic with Superconda. Axanthic removes red and yellow pigment, resulting in cool grey to black tones. Superconda, the homozygous form of Anaconda, removes almost all dorsal pattern, creating a clean and nearly patternless appearance. Genetically, this hognose snake also carries the recessive Toffeebelly gene, which together with Axanthic forms the Toxic combination. Toxic is expressed when both morphs are present in a homozygous state and results in a silver-grey to cream-like base colour. These traits are not visible here but may be expressed in offspring when both parents carry these genes.

Care at a glance

A good start begins with proper housing. Juvenile western hognose snakes do best in a smaller, well-structured enclosure with a stable temperature of around 25–29 °C. For adult animals, an enclosure with a minimum floor space of 60 × 30 cm or 60 × 50 cm is suitable, with a clear enclosure gradient of approximately 24–31 °C.

Keep the environment mostly dry, with a humidity level of around 30–50%. In addition, provide a localized humid microclimate, for example in the form of a humid hide.

A juvenile western hognose snake is typically fed once every 7 days with an appropriately sized frozen-thawed mouse.

For detailed information on housing, temperature, humidity, and feeding, please refer to our care guide on the care page.
